THIS JOURNEY

Having driven from London to Sydney years ago, the Pan-American Highway had always been a long held dream: from the darkest firey depths of Tierra del Fuego in Argentina, right up through the wilds of Central America and into the icy tundra of Alaska. There will be difficulties of course: numerous transport issues; border crossings; learning the language; logistics; costs; visas; sleepless, restless balmy or freezing cold nights; and driving thousands upon thousands of kilometres across 15 countries. Sounds like fun, right?

Oh and then for good measure, place in the middle the utterly impenetrable Darien Gap - 90km of swamps, drug trafficking, kidnapping, and with the addition of no actual road. Like almost every other traveller, I will be skirting around this bit!

The trip is entirely self-funded but I am looking to raise awareness for two charities important to me: White Ribbon & beyondblue. The latter is particularly close to my heart, trips like this reminding me that there is more to life than work and that mental stimulation is needed for mental survival - and there's nothing quite like an adventure!
